Yoga Benefit for the Jefferson Teen Center
Thank you for your support

The Rotary Club of East Jefferson County is pleased to announce that we have obtained a matching grant from Rotary District 5020 to support the Jefferson Teen Center (JTC) for the remainder of the school year. The Club will contribute $3,500 and our Rotary District will contribute $3,500 for this grant. Work and support funded by this grant will begin immediately and be completed by May 1st, 2019. Rotary Club President Caleb Summerfelt, and Club members John Barrett and Pete Leenhouts are leading this effort.
The grant involves Rotarian mentoring activities, repair projects, and equipment upgrades at the Jefferson Teen Center, which is located behind Chimacum High School at 91 West Valley Road.
The Jefferson Teen Center is an after-school program offering safety, mentoring, recreation, nutrition, and social service referrals to youth ages 12-18 in the communities supported by the Chimacum School District. The program is oriented to support kids in junior high school. It has been in operation since 1992, and while co-located on the Chimacum High School campus, is completely independent of the School District. School District funding is not used to support the Teen Center.
The Rotary Club of East Jefferson County has partnered with Chimacum Schools for a number of years, and was recognized by the School District for their support with an award in early 2018. The Club maintains a strong focus on improving the opportunities available to children and young adults within the Chimacum School District, which is the same population served by the Jefferson Teen Center.
Rotary Club President Caleb Summerfelt said that he was most appreciative of the support provided by the Rotary District. “Our Club has had a long partnership with Chimacum Schools, and we are delighted to have the opportunity to extend our support to the Jefferson Teen Center” he said.
In addition to providing regular mentoring support for teens using the Center, the Rotarians will buy, update and install computers, a large flat-screen TV, furnishings and art and administrative supplies for the JTC. Rotarians will also refurbish the entry ramp to the Teen Center and paint it in the spring.
The Club expects to announce regular work days to support the Jefferson Teen Center, beginning in January, 2019. Members of the public are welcome to volunteer their help to improve our community support of the Jefferson Teen Center.
